J. Goicoechea, Ph.D.
Duquesne University
Jessie Goicoechea received a B.A. in psychology
from the University of Dallas, and an M.A. and
Ph.D. in psychology from Duquesne University.
In 2003, she joined the faculty at Duquesne as
Director of the Psychology Clinic, the primary
training facility for the graduate students.
Dr. Goicoechea, also works as a therapist at Persad Center, a local community mental health agency that serves the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and HIV communities. An area of special clinical interest and expertise is domestic violence, particularly in same-sex couples. Research interests include looking at the discourse around domestic violence, particularly the terms "perpetrator" and "victim" and how these may inadequately capture the dynamics of the relationship. Qualitative research on the impact of psychiatric, diagnostic discourse on patient-staff relationships in psychiatric settings has been conducted.
