Eqequiel Peña, Ph.D.
University of Texas
Ezequiel Peña received
his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University
of Texas at Austin. He completed his pre-doctoral internship
at the Sunset Park Mental Health Center, an inner-city
clinic in Brooklyn, NY that serves Latin American Immigrant
and Latino groups. Dr. Peña's theoretical interests are situated
at the intersections of culture, philosophy and psychology,
drawing largely on cultural studies and the work of
French psychoanalysts Jacques Lacan and Julia Kristeva.
His primary research interests include understanding
the relationship between the interior and social lives
of U.S. ethnic minority subjects, with a particular
emphasis on Mexican American (Chicano) political subjectivity.
Within theses parameters, his research investigates
the intersections of ethnicity, class, gender and sexual
orientation. Exploring the politics and history of
the multicultural psychology movement and of the medicalization
of problems of living are also among Dr. Peña's scholarly pursuits.
His applied research interests include developing local
clinically-oriented research projects that address
the needs of underrepresented groups.
Dr. Peña can be reached by e-mail at penae@duq.edu
